The Green Bay Packers lack a true number-one wide receiver, and this offseason is the right time to add one.
The Packers have their quarterback locked up in Jordan Love. They have a stout ground game, led by running back Josh Jacobs, and a mostly-strong offensive line. And there’s lots of receiving talent on the roster–just not a slam-dunk superstar.
With Christian Watson sidelined with a torn ACL through at least November, the Packers could use a vertical threat on top of someone for Love to target on key downs. If they want all of that wrapped into one, their trade options may be limited.
Fortunately, the New York Jets are a disaster (as usual), and their young star wideout has been the subject of trade speculation entering the final year of his rookie contract.
In a recent article, FanSided’s Freddie Boston proposed that the Packers could acquire the Jets’ Garrett Wilson for a package of Romeo Doubs, the Packers’ number-two receiver, and unspecified draft picks.
“Draft picks plus Doubs for Wilson? Who says no?” Boston wrote.
“The Jets would add draft capital (which they could use to land Rodgers’ successor) while reuniting Rodgers with Doubs, a perfect complement to Adams. Green Bay would find its star WR1 to build the passing game around.”
Wilson, 24, has put up over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons on three terrible Jets teams, taking home Rookie of the Year honors in 2022. Doubs, meanwhile, averages 672 yards per 17 games, and dealt with multiple concussions in 2024.
The thing about trades based heavily in draft capital is that they’re somewhat impossible to predict. The Jets might be content to enter rebuild mode with a new head coach, or they might believe they’re close to playoff contention and hang on tightly to Wilson.
