Justin Fields is riding high. The former top pick of the Chicago Bears is 3-0 as quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers since taking over for an injured Russell Wilson.

Fields never won more than five games as a starter during his three-year tenure with the Bears. He may top that total by the end of October.

So, when appearing as a guest on teammate Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football Podcast, Fields didn’t hold back when asked which coaching staff was the better between the Bears and the Steelers.

“Pittsburgh,” Fields said. “It’s not close.”

Fields has received praise for his development since being traded to Pittsburgh for a conditional 6th-round draft pick in March.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said there’s “no question Justin has played well. And that’s exciting for him and for us.”

“I like his steady demeanor,” Tomlin added. “He doesn’t ride the emotional roller coaster when things are going good or things are going bad…He’s a competitor.”

Fields hasn’t put up eye-popping stats as a passer, aside from ranking sixth in the National Football League in completion percentage (73.3). He’s 27th in the league in passing yards (518) and tied for 24th in passing touchdowns (2), with the Steelers ranked 24th in total offense.

However, Fields has kept mistakes to a minimum and used his legs when needed, putting the Steelers atop the AFC North standings.

Perhaps, joining a team with one of the most successful coaches in NFL history has been what Fields has needed. Tomlin ranks No. 12 in league history in wins and has never had a losing season in 17 years at the helm.

In comparison, the Bears are 11-26 under head coach Matt Eberflus since the start of the 2022 season. This season, Chicago’s offense has produced the third-fewest years per game in the league as another young quarterback, Caleb Williams, has yet to find his way.

Taking his words at face value, Fields is more than grateful for the change of scenery and results.
