Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev are set to face off in an enticing round of 16 match at the US Open on Sunday night (local time). 

Medvedev is the defending champion at Flushing Meadows and has come into the tournament looking to defend his world number one ranking which is at risk

Kyrgios, meanwhile, is playing some of his best ever tennis and is full of confidence after beating Medvedev in Canada less than a month ago

Second set, Medvedev 6-3: Not the most convincing service game but the world number one does enough to hold and take out the second set. Kyrgios, thankfully, showing signs of life so this third set should be a bit closer.

Second set, Medvedev 3-0: Medvedev holds serve comfortably as he races out to big lead in this set. Kyrgios looking a bit flat after such an intense first set and he’s lucky to still be playing after this incident. 

Second set, Medvedev 2-0: Kyrgios fends off three break points but gets broken at the fourth time of asking as Medvedev takes an early advantage. The Australian was made to pay for a number of double faults. 

Second set, Medvedev 1-0: Medvedev bounces back from losing the first set to win his service game to love. Clinical stuff from the world number one, who’s looking to move on quickly. 

First set: Fourth time lucky for Kyrgios who wins the tie-breaker 13-11. First set to the Aussie. 

First set: This is an incredible tie-breaker with Medvedev this time fending off three set points from Kyrgios. Now 11-11.

First set: A see-sawing tie-breaker sees Kyrgios smash a racquet in frustration after letting a lead slip but he then survives two set points with it currently locked at 9-9. 

First set, Medvedev 6-6: This one is going to a tie-breaker as Medvedev holds serve after being pushed to deuce.

First set:, Kyrgios 5-4 Kyrgios comes from 15-30 down to hold serve and wraps up the game with his sixth ace of the match already. 

First set, Medvedev 4-4: Medvedev holds to level the set at 4-4 as the umpire takes the chance to tell the crowd to stay quiet during points. 

First set, Kyrgios 4-3: Kyrgios broken in return as Medvedev riles up the crowd to his advantage. Game on. 

First set, Kyrgios 4-2: Medvedev is broken first by Kyrgios as the Russian makes an unforced error on break point to hand his Aussie opponent the early edge.

“I don’t think we are friends. When I say ‘friends’, we haven’t been to the bar together. I feel like we respect each other a lot. On the court also we never really had any fight or anything, which can change any moment. We are both quite electric. You never know what’s going to happen in the future. Nick is a little bit different from other tennis players sometimes on the court. That’s his choice. That’s his life. I’m not the one to judge.”
