Real Madrid vs. Club America time, TV channel, live stream, lineups, and betting odds for preseason friendly

Real Madrid will look to bounce back from the El Clasico friendly loss to Barcelona over the weekend as Los Blancos take on Liga MX side Club America in San Francisco.

The defending Champions League title winners were kept off the scoresheet against their La Liga rivals, failing to register a single shot on goal. Karim Benzema was absent for that match, but should return against Club America as he is back from an extended break.

These two teams faced off in this very same city 12 years ago, as Real Madrid topped Club America 3-2 in a wild game at Candlestick Park. It was Jose Mourinho’s debut in charge of Real Madrid, as Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo scored second-half goals to secure a comeback win.

Club America are in the midst of the Liga MX season, falling to Tijuana on Saturday in league play. The club may be hampered by the slate of friendly matches, playing both Chelsea and Manchester City tight in 2-1 losses over the past 10 days.

Real Madrid have one more preseason fixture to go after this match in San Francisco, with a game against Juventus in the Rose Bowl left on the schedule. Then it’s the UEFA Super Cup to kick off the campaign, with the Champions League winners slated to face Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt on August 10.

Real Madrid vs. Club America team news & lineups

Notably, Real Madrid will have Karim Benzema available to play after the Frenchman returned from an extended break too late to see the field against Barcelona. Benzema should be deployed at some point, with the likes of Eden Hazard, Vinicius Jr, and Marco Asensio unable to find the back of the net against Barcelona in his absence.

Aurelien Tchouameni made his Real Madrid debut in Vegas through the first half, and could be available again to feature in San Francisco, although Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Casemiro will also push for more minutes in the buildup to next season. They were subbed into the match against Barcelona in the second half, entering the match at the same time.

Real Madrid have a slight hole at left back, with Ferland Mendy the only natural option, forcing David Alaba to slide over for his first-half appearance against Barcelona. Mendy played the second half in Vegas, and should be deployed there moving forward.

Real Madrid previous starting lineup (4-3-3): Courtois (GK) — Vazquez, Militao, Rudiger, Alaba — Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga — Rodrygo, Hazard, Vinicius.

The only injury concern for Club America is winger Roger Martinez who has missed the last three league matches with a knee problem.

Henry Martin came off the bench over the weekend in the loss to Tijuana, but he could start up front after scoring America’s only goal against Man City last week. Guillermo Ochoa will likely take the field in net to give fans a chance to see the Mexican goalkeeping star, but could be replaced on the half-hour mark by Oscar Jimenez as he was against both Chelsea and Man City.

The lineup below reflects Club America’s deployment in last week’s friendly against Man City, a more accurate predictor of how they might line up as the Mexican club navigates these midseason matches weaved into its Liga MX campaign, where it finds itself in 15th place with a middling 1W-2L-1D record after four matches.

Club America previous starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Ochoa (GK) — Fuentes, Araujo, Lara, J. Sanchez — dos Santos, R. Sanchez — Fidalgo, Valdes, Zendejas — Martin.

Real Madrid are understandably heavy favorites against a Liga MX side that fell by a 2-1 scoreline to both Man City and Chelsea in recent weeks, and looks to be struggling to balance the trio of high-profile friendlies and the Mexican league season.

Goals are expected, with the total set at 3.5. The question is whether Club America can find the back of the net, with the both teams to score mark almost dead even.
