Mariners are top destination for rival superstar to add needed offense

The Seattle Mariners could add some firepower to the middle of the lineup this upcoming offseason.

Seattle boasts one of the best starting rotations in baseball and is just one or two offensive pieces away from being considered one of the top contenders in the American League. If the Mariners could make a major splash in free agency this upcoming winter, they could do some damage this year.

There certainly is a strong chance they will make a big move and MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand mentioned them as a possibility to land Houston Astros superstar slugger Alex Bregman.

“Bregmanโ€™s breakout seasons in 2018-19 saw him average 36 home runs, 108 RBIs, and a .970 OPS, and he finished in the top five of AL MVP voting in both years,” Feinsand said. “He hasnโ€™t reached those levels since then, though he remains one of the more productive third basemen in baseball. Bregmanโ€™s platform year got off to a slow start (.206 average, four home runs, and a .589 OPS through his first 51 games), but heโ€™s come on since late May, hitting .302 with 15 homers and a .894 OPS over his past 65 games.

“The Astros have talked about extending Bregman, but with free agency around the corner, he should test the market. Potential fits: Astros, (Arizona Diamondbacks), (and) Mariners.”

Bregman could be just what the Mariners need. They certainly have some familiarity with him facing off against him numerous times in division clashes throughout the years. A move would give the Mariners a strong chance of competing for a World Series title and also weaken arguably their biggest rival. A move for Bregman would be a win-win and should be heavily considered.
