Cowboys $34 million quarterback predicted to ditch Dallas for Los Angeles

The Dallas Cowboys will have to address their backup quarterback situation in the offseason. Both of their backup options from this season are going into free agency.

Cooper Rush stepped in as the starter when Dak Prescott went down. However, Trey Lance did step in for the team’s week 18 matchup. Lance played fairly well but could be gone next season. TWSN’s Daniel Alameda predicted that Lance would join the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency.

“Trey Lance does make a ton of sense for the Chargers as they currently only have (Justin) Herbert on the roster, and this would be a perfect place for Lance to not only learn, but to become the de-facto backup wheras with Dallas he was the #3 behind Cooper Rush,” wrote Alameda.

The Cowboys will likely try to bring Rush back as Prescott’s backup. Unless Rush gets an opportunity to start elsewhere he and the Cowboys should be a perfect match in free agency. Lance just finished his four-year, $34 million rookie deal.

Lance was the No. 3 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season behind Jimmy Garoppolo and then eventually lost his job to Brock Purdy. With the Cowboys, he started in just one game. In the final game of the year, he went 20-34 with 244 yards, The Cowboys lost the game 23-19 to the Washington Commanders who won’t on to play in the NFC Championship.
