Welcome to “Thursday Night SmackDown!”
Football is, obviously, a very physical game. Sometimes, that physicality can be ratcheted up quite a bit, and that was exactly what happened with Travis Kelce and Derwin James on Thursdaya.
In the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s Chiefs-Chargers matchup, Kelce was lifted off the ground for what can best be described as the set up for a WWF-style spinebuster, before he was brutally slammed by the Chargers safety.
Derwin James just went WWE on Travis Kelce. Mercy. 😂pic.twitter.com/a0w8YZ6xB8

Thankfully for Kelce and the Chiefs, the ball popping out at the end came after he hit the ground, so no harm, no foul. Well, some harm, considering that must have felt not very good.
MORE: Tyreek Hill misses Patrick Mahomes, apparently
A friendly reminder that Kelce is no small man: He’s listed at 6-5 and 260 lbs., making for a whole lot of man that James lifts and slams to the ground.
Of course, the adoring NFL public loves a good hit, and they love making jokes even more.
Derwin James just powerbombed Travis Kelce. Compliments of Captain Insano.

Derwin James just picked up Travis Kelce on the two yard line and gave him one of the most violent slams I’ve seen on a football field.

The Chargers may end up losing, but at least Arn Anderson would be proud.
