Get used to hearing the name Summer McIntosh.
When you think of the great Olympic swimmers, American sensations like Michael Phelps, Mark Spitz, and Katie Ledecky come to mind. There are current Australians Emma McKeon and Ariarne Titmus who are well on their way to swimming stardom, as well.
The next on the list is McIntosh, a Canadian teenage sensation who made headlines three years ago in Tokyo. While she did not return to Canada with an Olympic medal, the 17-year-old is sure to leave Paris this summer with hardware in hand.
McIntosh is viewed as one of the next greats in the sport, already owning a world record and dominating at the World Championships. The next big stage for her is the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she will represent Canada in the hopes of reaching the top of the podium.

Where is Summer McIntosh from?
McIntosh was born in Toronto, Ont. on Aug. 18, 2006.
She hails from an athletic family. Her mother is Jill Horstead, an Olympic swimmer herself, specializing in the 200m butterfly. She finished ninth in the event at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
McIntosh’s sister is Brooke McIntosh, a pairs skater who competed at the Winter Youth Olympics in 2020. She also has a bronze medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships, which she won in 2022.
She currently trains in Florida.

McIntosh is a student at Ontario Virtual School, according to the school’s website. She finished her Grade 11 year with OVS.
“I stopped doing regular school after Grade 8 because my training schedule is intense and remote learning works best,” McIntosh said to Toronto Life. “Most of my friends are people I have trained with, even at home in Toronto.”
