Penn State vs. Boise State live score, updates, highlights from 2024 College Football Playoff quarterfinals

The second round of the 2024 College Football Playoff has arrived.

Penn State and Boise State will meet in Tuesday’s Fiesta Bowl, with the winner advancing to the semifinals in the CFP bracket and moving one step closer to a National Championship. The Nittany Lions coasted in their first playoff game, a 38-10 win over SMU, while the Broncos had a bye due to their recent Mountain West title. Now, two of college football’s most talented squads will meet on New Year’s Eve.

With a 12-2 record this season, Penn State has been playing some of its best football lately. The Nittany Lions have run for over 180 yards in three consecutive games, including in their home playoff win over the Mustangs. Quarterback Drew Allar (3,021 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, seven interceptions) has flashed stardom on a few occasions, but he didn’t have to do much in his squad’s last victory. Defensively, a unit led by DE Abdul Carter boasts a formidable pass rush and a secondary coming off of a three-interception game.

MORE PENN STATE-BOISE STATE NEWS:

On the other side of the Fiesta Bowl, the Broncos are headlined by Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty. With 2,497 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns so far this season, the running back could still potentially break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record.

Elsewhere, Boise State has gotten a productive season from quarterback Maddux Madsen (2,714 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, three interceptions) along with a defense that ranks among college football’s top units with 51 total sacks.

The Fiesta Bowl will have some of college football’s elite talents on display, including top-tier 2025 NFL Draft prospects like Carter and Jeanty. The winner between Penn State and Boise State will face either Notre Dame or Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
