The Race for the Roses is here. The regional round of the NCAA volleyball tournament doesn’t just mean 16 teams become four, but it also means Nebraska will play its final home matches of the season.
The Huskers host Dayton in the regional semifinals on Friday. A win is one step closer to the highly contested spots in Louisville. But first, the No. 1 Nebraska have to get through the Flyers.

No. 5 seed Dayton beat South Carolina in the first round of the tournament before defeating No. 4 Baylor in five sets to advance to the round of 16 for the first time in program history. Lexie Almodovar, Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, recorded 34 kills to make history for the Flyers, and she’ll be looking to do it again vs. Nebraska.
Every volleyball fan knows the Huskers thrive in this moment, and they won’t be upset easily. They made it look like a walk in the park through the first two rounds by beating Florida A&M and Miami, thanks to the intensity of the Big Ten all season long. As seniors Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason prepare to say goodbye for Nebraska, they’ll put on a show in their final dance at the Bob.
